Last spring, Shawn Green asked the Flying McLeods to help out on his section of trail going south out of Simmons Gap. We got a start on it in August with some regrading. On a chilly, breezy October Saturday, we returned to finish the job. Al and Andre Dahler and Jeffrey Landis joined me at the trailhead.
We started by rebuilding a section where exposed tree roots were making hikers go wide. Al and Andre mined some soil to raise the tread and we regraded up-hill to keep water off the new work. The rest of the day was spent regrading.
It was a busy day for hikers, too. At least twenty backpackers came by, in threes and fours; all were section-hiking. One group, who thru-hiked last year, was enjoying a reunion hike through Shenandoah National Park. All were appreciateive of the trail work; one hiker said trail conditions in the Park are the best of any sections he’d hiked. I always enjoy chatting with the customers.
Thanks again to Al, Andre, and Jeffrey for their work and support.
