Join the Southern Shenandoah Valley Chapter and the Flying McLeods as we “channel” the spirits of Myron Avery and other PATC pioneers in the creation of a new long-distance trail, the Great Eastern Trail. We will go into the George Washington National Forest near Bergton, Virginia, on August 22 and 23, to build the Carr Mountain Trail. This trail will link existing sections of the Great Eastern Trail.
Adding to the adventure, we will make a primitive car camp along the forest road leading to the work site. Participants must bring their own food, camping gear, and water for daily use, cooking, and drinking. Tools and safety gear will be provided.
The forest road is gated, so participants must arrive and travel together. A meeting place, probably somewhere in the greater Harrisonburg metropolitan area, will be decided upon later; call (540.248.0442) or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
