Last time I worked on the Trail was mid-November when I cut up a blowdown near the Hairpin, then went to Ivy Creek Overlook and cleaned waterbars. Now, the Trail's getting a nice nap under a blanket of snow. Skyline Drive is closed, but I'm not that interesed in getting on the Trail until the snow melts so we can see what work awaits us. I expect a few "snowdowns" (first heard that term from Madison Brown; very apt) and a lot of those arching witch-hazels laying down on the trail. Nuisance work, cutting and dragging them off the trail.
Off the Trail, I took my chainsaw recert course, took a two-day class in use of GPS and associated mapping software and spend a day teaching Leave No Trace to Boy Scouts. I've just published the Flying McLeods' 2010 work trip schedule and look forward to getting back to the "green tunnel." |
