Welcome to the public hiking trails in the South District of Shenandoah National Park! The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club has, since its inception in 1927 and the advent of the Park in 1932, strove to find routes, open, and maintain the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and its side and connecting trails. Additionally, PATC members volunteer their time to restore and maintain public facilities, such as trail huts and public cabins, for Park visitors.
Visitors to the South District of Shenandoah National Park enjoy hiking 45 miles of the Appalachian Trail and 72 miles of blue-blazed side trails. Did you realize that these 117 miles of trails are available to you, courtesy of volunteers?
Learn MoreThe Flying McLeods is the volunteer PATC trail crew who contribute to trails in the South District. The crew works from Spring through the Fall each year. PATC provides training, safety equipment, and tools.
